Finding out you’re pregnant can bring a lot of thoughts and feelings all at once. There may be excitement, questions, uncertainty, or a little bit of everything. And somewhere in the middle of it all, you might find yourself wondering, “Who do I have to support me and walk through this with me?”
Maybe your family support lives far away. Maybe your friends are in a different season of life. Or maybe you have people around you, but you’re not sure who you can really open up to.
Sometimes, it’s not that you don’t have people in your life. It’s that you’re wishing for someone who will really listen, check in now and then, or simply spend time with you without expecting anything in return.
And if the thought of meeting new people or building a support system feels like one more big thing to figure out, that’s understandable.
The good news? Friendship doesn’t have to start with something big.
When you’re pregnant, there can suddenly be a lot to think about. Finding new friends might not be at the top of your list, even if you’re wishing you had someone to talk to.
Whatever your circumstances, it’s never too late to begin building meaningful friendships.
Start small. You don’t have to make a dozen new friends. Sometimes, one caring connection is enough to help you feel more supported.
Be yourself. You don’t need to pretend everything is going well or share more than you’re comfortable sharing. Genuine friendship makes room for honest conversations, different emotions, and everyday life.
Look for people who respect you. Supportive friendships are built on kindness, trust, and mutual respect. Pay attention to people who listen, follow through, and make you feel comfortable being yourself.
Give connection time to grow. A short conversation might lead to another meeting, a shared activity, or a lasting friendship. There’s no timeline for developing trust.
And remember, you don’t have to figure out where to begin on your own. Here are some ideas of places to look at to find supportive relationships.
At A Friend for You, we believe every pregnant woman deserves friendship, encouragement, and someone who genuinely cares.
