Q. How did you first hear about A Friend for You?
A. I was searching online for programs to connect and find support during pregnancy, when I came across A Friend for You.
Q. What stood out to you about our support that made you want to join?
A. We moved to Fort Collins when I was one month pregnant. While it was an exciting step for us, I knew that pregnancy and postpartum are times when having a strong community is incredibly important. That’s why I really loved the idea of being paired with someone throughout the entire journey, having a consistent person in my support system who could also help me feel more connected to the community made such a difference.
Q. Who was your matched Friend? How did your relationship grow over time? What would you like to share about her?
A. Britony is incredibly kind, warm, and positive. I remember feeling nervous in the beginning and not really knowing what to say, especially early in my pregnancy when everything still felt so surreal. She had such a calming presence and made me feel supported. She always reminded me to trust my instincts and helped me feel confident in my own path; reinforcing that every journey is different and that it’s okay to follow your own.
Q. Did Britony connect you with any local resources or opportunities? If so, how was that helpful?
A. Britony always mentioned the many resources for diapers, supplies, etc that A Friend For You offers.
Q. What are some things you and Britony enjoyed doing together?
A. We enjoyed picking new, casual dinner spots and chatting about life!
Q. In what ways did Britony support you during this time? Do you plan on staying connected moving forward?
A. I always found Britony’s stories and advice so grounding and calming. She was also so thoughtful about checking in, which meant a lot. I would absolutely love to stay connected, and for my daughter, Alice, to have the chance to know her too.
Q. What was your experience with the gifts you received during your pregnancy?
A. These gifts were so kind and unexpected! So many items I would never have purchased for myself, but I really enjoyed. Especially the magnesium bath salts!!
Q. What did you think about the gift card for meals and the gift package after your pregnancy?
A. This was so kind and thoughtful—it felt really special to be spoiled a little after everything that comes with the adventure of childbirth.
Q. Why are you sharing your experience?
A. I am sharing in hopes that more pregnant women can learn about and benefit from this wonderful program!!
Q. What would you say to someone who is pregnant and feeling like they could use extra support?
A. Sign up for A Friend For You; connection really is so powerful!
Q. How long have you been connected with A Friend for You?
A. I’ve been volunteering for A Friend for You for 2 years now. It has been a wonderful and meaningful experience. I’ve been able to be a friend to some wonderful women and also volunteer for some amazing events.
Q. What first drew you to A Friend for You and why did you decide to become a volunteer?
A. I was first drawn to A Friend for You when I saw a presentation at my church. My heart instantly felt drawn to this organization. When I was 20 years old, I had an unplanned pregnancy. I remember feeling scared and alone, wishing I had more support. I am now 44 years old, and my son is a grown man. I feel thankful to get to give back to other women who might be in a similar situation.
Q. Can you share a few things you and Sydney have enjoyed doing together?
A. Sydney and I love to get food and try different restaurants around town. She is newer to town, so it’s fun for her to get to choose restaurants she’s heard about. We have eaten at places like Cava, Torchy’s Tacos, Fuzzy’s, and Starbucks.
At our most recent get-together, I got to meet her beautiful baby girl Alice. I felt so honored and special to spend time with these two. Sydney is a wonderful mother, and her baby girl just delights in being with her mommy.
Q. What would you like others to know about Sydney?
A. Sydney is a friendly and fun woman, wife, and mother. She enjoys being active and loves live music. She makes others feel at home and accepted.
Q. What kind of growth or changes have you noticed in Sydney since you’ve been connected?
A. She has continually grown in confidence about being a mother for her beautiful baby. Seeing her with her adorable little girl, and how comfortable she is at taking care of her, feeding her, and soothing her, I am so proud. Sydney loves taking Alice on walks in her stroller around town. And Alice is really starting to focus on her surroundings and see what’s going on around her. She also has a beautiful smile.
Q. What have you most enjoyed about building this friendship with Sydney?
A. I’ve enjoyed getting to chat with Sydney about life, motherhood, and our passions. I’ve enjoyed hearing about her experiences of moving to Colorado and hearing about her family. I’ve enjoyed answering questions about pregnancy and being a mother. Sydney is a good listener, so considerate, and an absolute sweetheart. She asks me about my life and cares about what I’m going through too. We get to eat good food and discuss life. It’s the best!
Q. What do you personally find most meaningful about being a volunteer?
A. I personally have found so much enjoyment in volunteering for this organization. It is such an honor to hear some amazing women’s stories and be invited into their lives. I love encouraging other women and letting them know how valuable they are. That’s what A Friend for You does. Pregnant women deserve support and encouragement. They don’t have to feel alone. I think this is the heart of a community and the hope of future generations. If we invest into mothers, we make the world better.
Q. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your friendship with Sydney or about A Friend for You?
A. As a volunteer for A Friend for You, I also love the camaraderie and friendship among the volunteers, and it’s so fun when we get together. I also appreciate the leadership. The women who run this organization are kind, empowered, and amazing women. They make the volunteers feel so appreciated and seen.
